As a civil engineer it is very important to know the building design code. Here I will give you the download link for BNBC 2020 PDF.
The new version of Bangladesh Building Code is Bangladesh National Building Code 2020 (BNBC 2020) published on February 11, 2021. This has been corrected by expert panels in relevant cases. This code closely resembles ASCE 7-05.
BNBC 2020 is needed for structural engineering professionals, architects, electrical engineers, fire protection designers, plumbing engineers, mechanical engineers and planners willing to work in Bangladesh to design and build infrastructure.
Although there are some error in BNBC 2017, it is very useful and helpful for Bangladesh to practice skilled engineers. With BNBC 2006 if the load and wind load of the earthquake has been significantly improved.

BNBC’s Scope (Bangladesh National Building Code):
– The provisions of this Code include the design, construction, use or occupation of any building or structure, alteration, movement, demolition and repair and installation or any equipment related to or attached to it, except as otherwise provided in other laws and building management and control rules.
-If in any case, different parts of this code have different features for materials, design or construction methods, or other terms, the most limited specification will be handled.
– Special provisions will apply if there is any discrepancy between a general need and a special need.
– All references that are not explicitly defined by part, chapter or section number or section will be treated as a reference to that part, section, section or provision of this Code, unless otherwise specified in this Code.

BNBC ASSOCIATED WITH DIFFERENT CODE:
RCC design:
- ACI 318-08
Steel design:
- AISC 360-05
Seismic Loads:
- Eurocode 8
- Alternatively in software ASCE 7-05 using Appendix C of BNBC 2017
Wind Loads:
- ASCE 7-05
LOAD COMBINATION FOR DIFFERENT DESIGN PROCESS
Load combination for structural design (LRFD)
- — 1.4D
- — 1.2D+ 1.6 L + 0.5Lr
- — 1.2D+ 1.6Lr + L
- — 1.2D + 1.6Lr +0.8W
- — 1.2D+ 1.6W + L
- — 1.2D+ 1.6W + L+0.5Lr
- — 1.2D+ 1.0E + 1.0L
- — 0.9D+ 1.6W
- — 0.9D+ 1.0E
D= Dead Loads, L= Normal Live Loads, Lr= Roof Live Loads, E= Earthquake Loads, W= Wind Loads
Also we have to consider the following load combination for structural design
— Have to consider in design for vertical earthquake load
— Vertical deflection for Gravity load
-D+L
— Creep, settlement and long term effect
– D+0.5L
— Lateral deflection for wind load of building
– D+0.5L+ 0.7W
Conclusion:
Civil engineers will review BNBC 2020 and practice it to create a safer and more sustainable Bangladesh.
