How the President of India is elected
|With Ram Nath Kovind’s term ending on July 24, around 4,800 MPs and MLAs will cast their votes till 5pm on Monday to elect India’s 15th President. The votes will be counted on July 21 and the next president will be sworn in on July 25.

In June 2022, the BJP nominated Draupadi Murmu as the National Democratic Alliance’s candidate for President of India in the 2022 presidential election. Murmu is the second person from a scheduled tribe to be nominated as a candidate for the presidency of India (the first being Purno Sangma).

TMC Presidential Campaign 2022
On 13 March 2021, Yashwant Sinha joined the TMC to fight against the BJP just ahead of the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections. On 15 March 2021, he was appointed the vice-president of the Mamata Banerjee-led party. Yashwant Sinha was unanimously selected as the opposition’s presidential candidate for the 2022 presidential election, making him the first Trinamool Congress leader to be nominated for the presidency.
