Since then, the board has been honoring deserving individuals with the “Nobel Prize”. For 2021, the Board announced the “Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine” on 04 October 2021. The winner will be announced in other categories.

Announcement of the 2020 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine by Professor Thomas Perlmann, Secretary-General for the Nobel Assembly and the Nobel Committee for Physiology or Medicine, on 4 October 2021.

The 2021 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine has been awarded jointly to David Julius and Ardem Patapautian for “for their discoveries of Receptors for Temperature and Touch.” Their discoveries have uncovered one of the mysteries of nature by explaining the molecular basis for the perception of heat, cold and mechanical energy, which is fundamental to our ability to sense, interpret and communicate with our internal and external environment.

The prestigious award brings a gold medal and 10 million Swedish kronor (more than $1.14 million).
The prize money comes from a will left by the creator of the prize, the Swedish inventor Alfred Nobel, who died in 1895.
