This is the third consecutive Olympic Games in Asia after Pyongyang 2016 and Tokyo 2020. The 2008 Summer Olympics are held in this city, so Beijing is the only city to host both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games. At the same time, Beijing is the largest city to host the Winter Olympics, compared to Vancouver, Canada, which hosted the previous 2010 Winter Olympics.

The 2022 Winter Games are the first Winter Olympic Games held in China and the first Games held in a socialist state since 1974. It has a budget of ৯ 3.9 billion, less than 1 in 10 of the 43 billion budget for the 2008 Summer Olympics.

Beijing Olympics NHL hockey Team boycott

This disrupted the regular NHL season due to the increase in Covid-19 cases.

NHL Commissioner Gary Bateman says “participation in the Olympics is no longer possible” 50 league games have been postponed until December 23. The game is scheduled to launch in China on February 4, 2022

With the time difference between South Korea and North America, many matches of the 2018 Games were played for US spectators at midnight and the NHL felt it was not right to suspend and allow its league for three weeks. Its players will go to Pyongyang.

“It’s disappointing,” said Steven Stamcos, Canada’s international Tampa Bay captain.

“Whatever the reason, the Olympic card didn’t work for me. It’s too bad. It’s something I probably don’t have a chance to do right now.” The NHL and Players’ Union agreed to send athletes to the 2022 and 2026 Winter Olympics unless the league season was affected by Covid.
