Facebook to Metaverse

“From now on, we’re going to be Metaverse first, not Facebook first,” he said at the company’s annual Connect conference. “Our brand is so strongly associated with a product that it probably can’t represent what we’re doing today, let alone the future.”

The 37-year-old, a New York native, explained that over time, his team expects Meta to be seen as a “metaverse company,” which he wants to “anchor” his work and identity until Thursday.

“We now see and report our business as two different segments, one for our apps family and one for our work on a future platform,” he continued. “And as part of that, it’s time for us to embrace the brand of a new company to reflect what we do and what we want to create.”

The company has updated its social media pages with a new logo and a new handle on Twitter for Meta, following the major announcement.

The meaning behind the new name

The word “meta” comes from the Greek word meaning “after”. Zuckerberg wrote a “founders’ letter” which he uploaded to the Meta website on Thursday to explain his chosen name.

“For me, it’s symbolic that something more can always be created and the next chapter of the story is always there. We have a story that started in a dorm room and grew beyond our imagination, ”he wrote. “In a family of apps that people use to connect with each other, find their voices and start businesses, communities and movements that have changed the world.”

Mark Zuckerberg Is Still the Boss

The entrepreneur will stay on as Meta’s CEO and continue to oversee the changes being made within the parent company.

Meta has been newly signed up from Facebook

On Thursday, the company replaced its Facebook “Like” image with a new meta logo outside its headquarters in Menlo Park, California, which looks like an infinite sign.
